Make a Vacuum Tube

Here is a rather fantastic video of a French chap making vacuum tubes. Dave found it here http://blog.makezine.com/archive/2008/01/make_your_own_vaccum_tube.html . And I nicked it. Glorious craftsmanship. And he is French.
What is a vacuum tube? you might ask. Well they are the forerunner to the transistor, which we know and love. In its simplest form, its just an amplifier. But you can do all sorts of crazy things with them like make x-rays and kill people. I did electronic engineering at uni, but I never actually got to play with a vacuum tube. I was only talking to Tim this last week over New Year, and we wanted to get back into making stuff again. Fancy a tube?
